Description
The trail begins on gentle switchbacks lined by red huckleberry and numerous large stumps. An assortment of devils club, skunk cabbage, red alder, sword and bracken fern, vine maple and bunchberry fill out the diverse understory.
It climbs 400' on the first mile to Talapus Creek (1.2 miles), where grades steepen on eroded switchbacks above the water. Enjoy a splash pool on Talapus Creek before crossing the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Boundary into tall stands of silver fir (1.8 miles : 3,274').
Follow signs (right) for Talapus - Olallie Lakes where a faint spur splits left (1.86 miles : 3,285), and cross several bridges over Talapus braided outlet to Talapus Lake (2.1 miles : 3,370).
The trail continues on switchbacks through silver fir and hemlock that moderate to a trail junction for Olallie Lake (left), and east across the creek to Pratt Saddle (2.9 miles : 3,670).
It crests through a mossy hemlock stand (3.3 miles : 3,811) and dips to the west side of Olallie Lake (3.3 miles : 3,790). Much of the shore is accessible, and lined by blueberry and huckleberry bushes that peak by mid-August. Theres a privy and numerous campsites at the lake.

Beautiful landscape Jeff! I love how the branches in the water add interest and break up the reflection. L/F
