Description
Crepe Myrtle is of the Family Lythraceae and Genus Lagerstroemia.
Looking at the tiny round red shiny buds of the Crepe Myrtle, it is amazing to see close up how these amazing little curly petals emerge from the bud. Who would think that they start off yellow, then turn out bright pink or lilac!
The buds and flowers of the crepe Myrtle are certainly worth viewing close up for those interested in botany. These tiny buds are generally less than 1cm in size so it is amazing to see what bursts out!
The petals really do look like crepe paper, so fine and delicate, hence the common name Crepe Myrtle.

Lagerstroemia, commonly known as crape myrtle or crepe myrtle, is a genus of around 50 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia and parts of Oceania, cultivated in warmer climates around the world. It is a member of the Lythraceae, which are also known as the loosestrife family. The genus is named after the Swedish merchant Magnus von Lagerstrom, who supplied Carolus Linnaeus with plants he collected. These flowering trees are beautifully colored and are often planted both privately and commercially.
